Question 1

Mona went on holiday to France. She exchanged £200 for 240 euros to spend while she was there. How many euros did she get for each £1?

Solution:

Mona exchanged £200 for 240 euros.
Mona got 240/200 = 1.2 euros for each £1.
Therefore, Mona got 1.2 euros for each £1.

Question 2

Jo uses 67g of sugar from a 1.2kg packet. How many grams of sugar are left?

Solution:

1.2kg = 1200g
1200g – 67g = 1133g
Therefore, 1133g of sugar are left.

Question 3

The supermarket had a sale on their bottles lemonade.
Instead of selling them for 75p per bottle. they sold for 67p per bottle.
They sold 300 bottles of lemonade in a week.
How much less did they take by selling at the lower price?

Solution:

The supermarket sold 300 bottles of lemonade at 75p per bottle.
Total cost = 300 x 75p = £225
The supermarket sold 300 bottles of lemonade at 67p per bottle.
Total cost = 300 x 67p = £201
£225 – £201 = £24
Therefore, they took £24 less by selling at the lower price.

Question 4

The perimeter of a rectangle is 22cm. One of the side has length 8cm. What is the sum of length of the other three sides?

Solution:

Let the length of the other side be x.
Perimeter = 2(l + b)
22 = 2(8 + x)
22 = 16 + 2x
2x = 22 – 16
2x = 6
x = 3
The sum of the length of the other three sides = 3 + 3 + 8 = 14
Therefore, the sum of the length of the other three sides is 14.

What fraction (in its simplest form) of Footwear are boots?

Solution:

The percentage of boots = 7%
Fraction of Footwear that are boots = 7/100
The percentage of Shoes = 70%
Fraction of Footwear that are Shoes = 70/100

Total percentage of Footwear = 7% + 70% = 77%
Total fraction of Footwear = 77/100

Now, Fraction of Footwear that are boots = 7/100 / 77/100 = 7/77 = 1/11
Therefore, the fraction of Footwear that are boots is 1/11.
